about

SPECIFIC MEMORY
===========================
Z.A.s second release. Made public at the same time as the debut ELECTRISHE DUO, in February 2010 on defunkt message board STILLEPOST. Original files hosted on DivSare. Later uploaded to Bandcamp in May of 2010.

The music on this album was mostly recorded in the Rehearsal Factory near Bathurst and Queen in a small basement room using other people's drums and amps. The beds were done on the Tascam 424mkII. Overdubs and editing were done in Audacity on a cheap PC. The Eggy bits were a surprise for M____ on his birthday. He dislikes all the looping and phasing. Side B opens with our trademark jazz sounds.

GENERAL MEMORY
============================
The goal was to make albums on a very limited budget by doing everything ourselves. Also to make them very quickly. This was a reaction to another band we had been in where it took forever to accomplish nothing at great expense.

In 2010 we planed on recording and releasing an album every month. We had a list of compositional approaches I had made, borrowed from Pop and High Art alike. We sought "New Means of Organization". Rock was predictable. Rules were for reacting to! Smash bang! Get queasy! We had a plan. We met twice a month. I did all the editing, Mike did all the travelling.

In the end we only made 7 albums in 2010.

Our first real albums together after a decade of mucking about. So WHAT if we released it ourselves and made them out of junk? We wanted art without strings and it seemed that this was a way to do it. Made for joy and out of curiosity, not for or out of money.

This music, It sings and cries out to you in the night. It has a heart that beats. Two hearts or more, even. Its seventeen arms wave and cling. One giant eye blinks. Tears float upwards - there is no gravity here yet your limbs sag under its gaze. It has scales and a soft soft downy fur. It makes its own food out of your emotions, but only the ones you don't need. It often sleeps but when it wakes it rages and wails with a prophetic urgency. Our child is a monster and yet we love it. Trapped forever in the past.

And you? Who are you? Why did you come here? That alone is special and rare and there is now "something" about you that WE share.

THIS RECORD HAS COLLECTED YOU! ™
