Disturbed Ground means anywhere where people have dug a hole and filled it in or generally made a mess of the stratigraphy thus rendering it useless for dating, archeologically speaking. It is a very very good title. This is a summer record made when M____ visited Canada. We went camping with our friend J___ A___ (pictured behind the green rectangle on the original front cover). This got weird, things got loose... Maybe that was the year with the fire-ban and the bear warning and the high winds. We made a single square room out of blue tarps. It got so silent we heard, and feared, what turned out to be a tiny beetle crawling through the brittle leaves. We made an album using percussion constructed from camp implements, rocks and sticks, a uke and a one-string bass tied to the wooded shit box. That album is called INSIDE THE TARP PALACE and was never released. This song was made that year, maybe, and features M___ playing the drums of time and C___ worrying away at the upright piano we had access to at that time. The tune was done in a single take with some sections removed and some repeated afterwards. Roland Promars overdubs were done very quickly along with some Acetone. The wobbly vocal sounds are the Promars preset called 'Voice'. This song is a soul-poem for the emotional humans. It is for the planet and all life. It is a goodbye dirge for humanity, a real downer. One of our best.
